Garage Door Cable Repair in Bokeelia
Frayed or slipped lift cables are replaced together and the drums and brackets examined, so the door rises and lands level on both sides.
Ask about a matched cable pair — (239) 312-0871Two Thin Wires Doing Heavy Lifting
Your door hangs from two steel cables, one at each lower corner. Each wraps onto a drum on the spring shaft, or loops over a pulley on extension-spring doors, and because both sides pay out together, the door rises level. A cable that slips or snaps leaves one corner behind while the other races ahead.
Cables rarely fail for no reason. A rough drum edge, a corroded bracket, a nudge from the car or a worn-out spring can all be behind it. We replace the pair and track down the culprit, so new wires avoid the same fate and the opener is not stuck pushing a twisted door.
What a Tired Cable Looks Like
One corner sits low
When the door is shut, light peeks under one end, or the door looks slightly twisted as it moves.
A slack wire loop by the track
Loose cable beside the rail often means it slipped off its drum. It can catch on hardware, so leave the door be.
Frayed, fuzzy strands
Wires splaying near the lower bracket mean strands have broken, leaving the rest to shoulder extra weight with every trip.
A jam partway through the trip
A leaning door wedges its wheels in the channel, so the motor pauses, grinds or backs off somewhere in the middle.
A Cable Swap, Start to Finish
- 1
Secure the door
Clamps pin the door to the track and the springs are relaxed before anything is unhooked, because the cables are what restrain that tension.
- 2
Install a new pair
Both go in fresh, and drums, set screws and brackets are checked for burrs or rust that would saw through a new wire.
- 3
Set even tension and test
Each side is wound to match, springs are retensioned, and the door cycles until it lands square on the floor.
Cable Questions
Does a frayed cable make the door unsafe to use?
Yes. A cable with broken strands can part without warning and drop one corner onto a car or someone passing. Better to leave the door shut, stay out from under it and get the pair replaced before it moves again.
Why does one failed cable make the opener act up?
With one side unsupported, the door twists and its rollers wedge in the track. The motor senses the resistance and stops or reverses, which looks like an opener fault but is really a door problem.
If just one cable failed, do both need replacing?
Almost always. They have hauled the same loads for just as long, so the survivor is likely worn thin. A new matched pair also keeps both sides in step, which lets the door rise without twisting.
A Corner Hanging Low?
Leave the door shut and the opener off. A quick description of the tilt or the loose wire is enough to explain the repair.
